About the Provider:
My name is Heather Ronspies. I am a very kind, enthusiastic, and loving individual. I have been successfully working with children for more than ten years. I was a nanny for several years, and have been gainfully employed by four different public child care facilities. I began operating as a licensed child care provider in March 2013. Having such extensive experience, it is simply my desire to continue spending my days with children, and educating them in a safe, happy, and positive environment! As a family child care provider, it is my goal to instill this environment for each individual child – to stimulate physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth at each of his or her own pace. I offer loving care to each individual child; and in doing so, strive to build their self-esteem and respect for themselves and for others. As your partner in providing adequate care for your child, my interactions with you, the parent, are equally as important as my interactions with your child. I encourage and expect your involvement within the child care setting.
Goals & Philosophy:
The extent of SMART Enrichment Center’s philosophy begins with a safe, loving, and respectful environment. This environment is one where children have the greatest opportunity to grow and develop. Such an environment is the foundation of SMART Enrichment Center – one that is fulfilling, enriching, and supportive of all possible learning and growing opportunities!
Children in a child care setting are developing the skills that prepare them for Kindergarten. For some caregivers, it is natural to dismiss the importance of play and spend more time on structured, teacher- directed lessons. Other caregivers feel that Preschoolers are too young and immature to handle rigorous work, such as reading, writing, and arithmetic, so they provide an environment that is all play, with very little cognitive learning. SMART Enrichment Center believes the best development model is one that incorporates the theories of Piaget, Montessori, and Erikson – learning through play is the cornerstone of our curriculum, consisting of some cognitive lessons, and much developmentally-appropriate play. Caregivers provide security, protection, stimulation, support, limits, and affection. Children are respected as individuals within a child-oriented program.
At SMART Enrichment Center, children are provided opportunities of exploration, self-sufficiency, and independence. Activities are strategically planned and implemented in a classroom setting. Favorable circumstances allow for the children to choose from age-appropriate activities including language development, art, music, science and nature, math skills, dramatic and active play. Through these opportunities, children learn to socialize effectively, share, be kind, handle conflict, and build their overall self-esteem.
The primary goal of SMART Enrichment Center is for children to feel safe and secure. Prior to acquiring independence, a child must know he or she can depend on adults and a predictable environment. Children are treated with respect and kindness. We recognize that children develop at different rates and have different interests. Our small group size and teacher-child ratio allows us to meet the individual needs of each and every child.
An important duty, as a child care provider, is to never stop learning. I believe that a quality child care provider never sits back and accepts that there is no room for improvement. No matter how wonderful the program, or how well-trained the staff, there is always more that can be done. I constantly evaluate my program, myself, my staff, the children, and community needs. Regular assessments are crucial to the overall quality of the program. It is my responsibility to stay current on topics relating to child care and child development by attending conferences, joining groups, taking classes, etc. The combination of these elements are what characterizes SMART Enrichment Center.
